Turkish Coup is a huge issue..

If Erdogan is out, it will be a question of who is backing the military. Erdogan's biggest rival is Gulen, who has been living in exile in the US for years now.. He is also an Islamist, but allegedly apolitical and more moderate..

But we can likely expect even more waves of refugees into Europe if this devolves into a civil war.. Gulen is not reportedly in favor of a Kurdish reconciliation.

And US bases in Turkey are now at risk, given how this administration has dealt with other coups (Thailand)..

The question is also the role the Russians have played in this, if any?

BIG EVENT.. very big.. And not totally unexpected.. But are the Islamists in charge of the Coup, or secular military leaders (many of whom Erdogan purged)?
