This morning, the president's own "counter-coup" began with the purging of 2,745 judges across the country, as well as the issuance of arrest warrants for 140 appeals court members. Erdogan's path to full, authoritarian power is now open.

This is disappointing. Now we'll have to reach into our bag of reasons for why we're supporting yet another dictator. Luckily the bag contains plenty of choices.

my wife's cousin had to hide in a hotel closet in istanbul last night to avoid being found by the military. she is currently on a flight out of there right now. needless to say she won't be going back there, in any capacity.

she is a hi level executive at mastercard and has been there on numerous occasions over the last few years.

no place is safe across the pond.
