Historically, it was true that GTE usually closed higher near year
end. I believe GTE will drop a little in January 1998. But since the
merger rumor will surface again in 1Q 1998, GTE will be trading
between $47 and $55 range in 1Q 1998.

The best case will be that either AT&T, SBC or BT makes a $65 a share
offer for GTE by the end of 2Q. 1998.
