Regarding Rick Cowles...

Mr. Cowles "Utility and Y2K Site" is indeed one of the best sources for information on embedded chips and y2k. But he has been wrongly identified as involved in working within the utility industry. Actually, Mr. Cowles describes himself as somebody doing y2k consulting for a large pharmaceutical company!

I guess it would be more accurate to say that utilities are his passion, but I am tickled by the idea that he is an embedded chips expert working on a drug company project <g>. I wrote him about TPRO after I first discovered his site, and pointed out that the TPRO CD/ROM was created in conjunction with Pfizer (do I recall that correctly, or was it Schering Plough?). He only half read my letter, replying that it was inappropriate of me to push a company that I worked for! I corrected his misconception, he kindly apologized, and added me to his e-mail list.
One last thing: Happy New Year to One and All!

>>>Mike, I asked some of the folks at the newsgroup...comp.software.year-2000 about resetting the clock to 1980 as a proposed solution.

John, I said that tongue in cheek. I was referring to all the hypes about elevators getting stuck, bank vault does not open, etc. after year 2000. So I said reset the clock to 1980, it's a joke but it's true. Obvioulsy, if there is Y2K problem in a utility plant or a flight control tower, the code needs to be fixed.

If you want to believe in the doomsday scenario as predicted by Jaeger and Yardeni (sp?) because they are experts, then it's your right.

I find Rick Cowles to be more credible than guys like Jaeger and Yardeni who make a living conducting seminars about Y2K doomsday.
