Craig and all, first I wish you and all of the others on this thread a happy and healthy new year.

Now to TLAB. I'm always somewhat amused about bullish vs. bearish outlooks for a stock. I believe that the market is basically imponderable, and that investor sentiment will gyrate wildly depending on long-term interest rates and what analysts have to say about the short-term price targets and earnings outlook of any stock. So, for those of us who are long-term holders, the real issue is the secular outlook for continued earnings growth.

So far as I can tell, it looks as if Tellabs is in an excellent position to continue its historic growth. The only impact I can see from Asia is the potential for lowered costs (if some components come from Asia -- I don't know), and perhaps the deferral of some potential sales. But in the overall scheme of things these issues will not portend new secular trends -- they are simply short-term issues. As South America, Eastern Europe and Asia continue to develop their infrastructures huge markets will be opening for companies like Tellabs. The real challenge will not be to stimulate grwoth, but rather how Tellabs manages the explosive growth I see coming.

Regards to all,

Paul
