On the first point, I didn't go into this in my earlier post (mainly because I didn't think hard about it) but there are pretty much 2 obstacles to SPD adoption - certification of the technology and evaluation of the money-making potential. Time-wise the long pole in the tent is the certification process - it is lengthy and complicated. For example, with Lincoln it is 3 years to certify a new glass technology. By accepting Daimler's certification testing competitors can likely hasten their adoption of SPD and they only have to decide if it will be worth it monetarily. That's why Joe's emphasis of other OEMs watching the S-Class success in adoption of SPD has made me realize the underlying acceleration of SPD adoption by the industry by "borrowing" testing by Daimler. Just imagine how much fun the shots would be having if the next OEM was to announce in 2-3 more years!!! It is also why the 100% reliability of SPD in many 10s of thousands of vehicle years has been so important - others trust the technology!

Did we ever find out on when the 787 EDW / EC contract ran. If it's until a while out in time, then I expect the narrowbody 737 MAX to be first in 2017 as it begins production and the 787 to transition at its next contract renewal opportunity. Perhaps the current 737 model, the NG (Next Gen) adopts because both will be produced for several years and the window contract for both A/C is with the same RFI licensee - GKN.
