One good reason is that it was a completely frivolous suit.

Maybe a good faith offering to Symantec. If these companies were smart they would end this now and settle. This is never going to court. If it does, Symantec will lose.

It's nice to see NETA save a little money on legal expenses by dropping a law suit which was a childish reaction in the first place.
