I hate to be a stickler for details, Mike W, but you are confused with this statement:

I believe that you really wanted to say "PC (Program Counter) Relative Addressing" but just got confused. Your concern is with relocatable code, written for dynamic linking. Absolute addressing mode DOES allow new code to be stuffed in between the old stuff...
