Interesting point Robert,

Using a regular processor which processes Java efficiently may be preferable to using a dedicated Java processor. At least the Rockwell chip also seems to be non "Sun picoJava compliant." I think there was an issue a while back regarding whether the Java bytecodes support some of the other features needed by a processor -- a processor instruction set can't be limited to Java bytecodes. I am sure that the picoJava addresses that issue, but many processor manufacturers may opt to address the issue differently. Initially, I would think that people would be much more comfortable with a general processor that can efficiently execute Java than a dedicated Java processor which they have to hook up with other peripherals.
