In accepting his party’s nomination for president, Donald Trump said “here, at our convention, there will be no lies.” But we found plenty of instances where Trump twisted facts or made false claims.

  • Trump: 'I Will Restore Law and Order to Our Country'

    • Trump said after Clinton’s four years as secretary of state, “Iran is on the path to nuclear weapons.” But Iran was already on a path to acquiring nuclear weapons. At issue is whether the nuclear deal will prevent Iran, as intended, from becoming a nuclear power.
    • He also blamed Clinton for the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. But Clinton and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates both urged President Obama not to be quick to abandon support for Mubarak.
    • Trump claimed Clinton “plans a massive … tax increase,” but tax experts say 95 percent of taxpayers would see “little or no change” in their taxes under Clinton’s plan.
    • He correctly noted a 17 percent increase in homicides in the 50 largest cities from 2014 to 2015, but called it a reversal after a decades-long decline in crime. Experts say that’s not enough data to draw conclusions about a trend.
    • Trump claimed Clinton “illegally” stored emails on her private server while secretary of state, and deleted 33,000 to cover-up “her crime.” But the FBI cleared Clinton of criminal wrongdoing, and found no evidence of a cover-up.
    • Trump said that “there’s no way to screen” Syrian refugees to determine “who they are or where they come from.” But all refugees admitted to the U.S. go through an extensive vetting process that takes 18 to 24 months to complete.
    • He said the “trade deficit in goods … is $800 billion last year alone.” It was nearly that, but it discounts the services the U.S. exports. The total trade deficit for goods and services is just over $500 billion.
    • Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, also spoke, and he erroneously claimed that the Iran nuclear deal “lined the pockets of the world’s number one state sponsor of terrorism with your money.” The assets that were unfrozen by the deal weren’t held by the U.S. government.
That’s not all: Trump made other factual errors and omissions on NAFTA, Libya, household income, government regulation and the Affordable Care Act.

    Steve,
you can embrace your imagination of what a hillary presidency with a left wing stacked supreme court will do
TopCat has been banging me on the head over this point for days now.

One thing I just thought of is this. If Trump gets elected, most of his "dangerous ideas" will be held in check by Congress, the Supreme Court, and a public that will protest anything significant he tries to do.

But if Hillary gets elected, and if the Senate either becomes Democrat or otherwise bends to her will, there will be no checks on her. She will be free to consolidate power, reward her cronies, and cement the awful legacy of Obama.

As an advocate for smaller government, I might have to go with Trump and just hope that none of his ideas that I oppose ever gets passed.

I don't have any more confidence in the orange faced psycho than I do Hillary. I hope Hillary is a weak President. Cause we're stuck with her now. I don't see how she can get less than 350 electoral votes.

I can't step in dog crap on purpose. And I can't vote for a man who derides POW's, says Cruz's did killed JFK (AGAIN THIS MORNING), invited Putin to invade a NATO country (YESTERDAY), and a million other things. The Republicans are holding their nose and pretending nothing smells. But it's only going to get worse.

One more thing: Donald made clear the primary is NOT over this morning. Apparently he's still running against Ted Cruz instead of Hillary:

WATCH. Unhinged Donald Trump Becomes Even More Unhinged On CSPAN (VIDEO)

Posted at 12:00 pm on July 22, 2016 by streiff

I knew this was coming and said so. He sounds pent up. Manafort wouldn't let him attack Cruz on Unity night because too many would have walked out on him, so he waited till the next morning:

Donald Trump, fresh and invigorated from having rough sex with the delegates at the RNC convention, was on C-SPAN this morning. He gave a performance that was both unhinged and detached from reality. In other words, this was a day ending in 'y' in the Age of Trump.

I don't have a transcript but these are the highlights. Ted Cruz violated campaign finance laws. The National Enquirer is highly credible. No one has ever denied that Ted Cruz's father shot JFK. Ted Cruz's PAC attacked Melania Trump. Melania Trump didn't marry Donald for money because she made a lot of money lolling around naked. Ted Cruz changed his speech. Trump doesn't want Ted Cruz's endorsement and wouldn't accept it.

Here's full bit of the 1st time Trump goes off on Cruz today: "Honestly, he may have ruined his political career."

How can Pence smile over this shit? Makes him just as bad as Trump. Trump now defending his CruzSr insult. Praising Nation Enquirer.

My jaw is dropped watching Trump castigate Cruz right now. Says no one ever denied that Rafael Cruz was in the photo with Lee Harvey Oswald.

    Larry Sabato @LarrySabato
Trump says a "credible source" made accusation that Ted Cruz's dad was involved in JFK murder. And 'nobody ever denied it.' Incredible.

Trump is now lying. As always. Cruz did not change his speech after providing it to them for review. Trump tweeted that himself.

Trump once again attacking Cruz, makes a lot of sense to attack people in your own party while trying to unify it.

[ He's NOT trying to unify it. He WANTS TO LOSE to Hillary! ]

You can't make this stuff up. There was literally not a single true thing that Donald Trump said in this interview. This is not hyperbole. There is not a single truth here. So, have the joy of your candidate, Trump supporters. You really deserve this clown.

Congrats, GOP, your nominated candidate is INSANE. And now that he has the nomination, Manafort can't control him anymore. Hey, why not put an insane guy in the WH, see if he nukes anyone.

Hillary isn't going to trash the NATO alliance, the most important military alignment in the world.

What crazy reasoning goes into arguing the GOP will somehow stand up to Trump's insane foreign and trade policies but will somehow just fold before Hillary Clinton's social policies that you disagree with?
