I've wondered about this for quite some time. What benefit does it do for Trump supporters and Trump himself to attack Ted Cruz relentlessly? You see it on SI, on Free Republic and with Trumpkins on Facebook. They literally go out of their way to say something hateful to a true Conservative who has been taking the arrows from liberals and the media for years. Why?

The conclusion I've come to is their hatred is based on bigotry toward Christianity. Ted Cruz is the only candidate in recent memory who actually lives by his faith and is unafraid to extoll the virtues it provides his life. Today, cynicism and bigotry have taken on such a deep root in America, they just can't believe it when someone lives a life aligned to it. He makes them seem small in comparison. They would sell their soul for any level of power, position or advantage, and Ted Cruz just won't.

So they attack and demean him, just like liberals. When someone responds and tries to defend the attack, they go absolutely berzerk! Just like liberals do. It's a strange kind of derangement syndrome where thinking goes through a path of "I must act and behave like my Emperor acts toward the scum". All decency, civility and ability to disagree go out the window.

I can't put my finger exactly on it, but it has similarities with the way Tim Tebow brings out people's bigotry. People hated Tim Tebow, but they just couldn't explain why. All the guy does is treat people well, and work hard, yet some detested him for living a life where faith guided his decisions.

The way Cruz handled the words in his speech didn't surprise me at all. Because it's similar to what I would do in his position if someone treated my family the way Trump has. There is no excuse for the kind of behavior we saw during the primary season, and if he was unwilling to apologize for it, he is no leader, and no one I would publicly support.
