Because his plan appears mostly recycled from the platform of Hillary Clinton. That’s right. When it comes to trade, it largely doesn’t matter who the voters elect. Both the presumptive GOP presidential nominee and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee are nearly identical. Here is the full text of Trump’s speech, delivered Tuesday . Here is the trade plan Clinton released last April . Trump outlined seven points in his trade speech on Tuesday that mirror several points made by Clinton months ago. For example, Trump pledged to “renegotiate” NAFTA. So has Clinton. ... Trump and Clinton are largely indistinguishable when it comes to trade policy, if you take them at their word. Trump pledged to take aggressive action against China, which includes cracking down on currency manipulation. So has Clinton. Trump threatened to use “every tool under American and international law to end these abuses” including the use of tariffs. So has Clinton. Specifically, Clinton has said she will “take on foreign countries that keep their goods artificially cheap by manipulating their currencies, and expand our toolbox to include effective new remedies to respond, such as duties, tariffs, or other measures.” Trump opposes the Trans Pacific Trade Partnership. So does Clinton, although she did previously support it. (Notably, Trump did try to raise the bar on his commitment to killing the deal by calling on Clinton to affirmatively state that she would withdraw from it “first day in office and unconditionally rule out its passage in any form.”) And so Trump and Clinton are largely indistinguishable when it comes to trade policy, if you take them at their word. The only difference is Clinton proposed the policies first. \ - See more at: https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/06/trump-recycles-clintons-trade-policies#sthash.Wv8eAUjP.dpuf
