Herb, you seem to believe for some reason that technology should serve you...
Well, yes. But, it occurred to me that I didn't mention what I was thinking when I read that they plan on obsoleting the stereo output jack. Breaking connections. … In addition to the advanced capability of 3 days (or more) worth of music in the palm of your hand with bluetooth connection to any of many bluetooth devices, there is the possibility of using it with connection to many still functioning legacy devices. In fact, you can still go online to several electronics speciality outlets and order up your own pre-amp and whatever you want to connect to for whatever reason. Some people still do that. Is it so important to get rid of the jack and its circuitry that these connections no longer matter? iDevices rule, when it comes to modern markets for music IP. Once done, it's over for those stereos, unless you can buy a bluetooth pipe dongle for them to receive the iDevice's output.

I don't know. Maybe I'm lamenting the loss of an inconsequential bit of nostalgia. I use old Altec Lansing 2/1 setups with both TVs and computers. (MX-5021's and the older 621) The sound is rich, clear and without any need for equalization. Using those is the only case I have for needing to plug in the 3.5mm TRS connector today. But, losing that connection on every iOS device going forward means that the only path to get the music out of the devices will soon be radio, and this:

Somehow that just doesn't seem right.
