I've been thinking about it a lot and I'm coming down to this:

I'm a conservative. I believe in the Constitution as written and amended, in limited government, free market economics, and a strong defense. I only ever voted for Republicans because they've been the conservative party - sorta. The party has been abandoning conservative governance ever since Reagan. But now it's Trump's party and he's openly declared it's NOT the conservative party. A Trump victory will further discredit the GOP and make it harder to ensure that conservative governance will EVER BE its guiding doctrine.

I voted for Romney who might have been as liberal as Trump. I justified voting for him because he had a sterling character and would have been a competent manager. Neither of those apply to Trump imo. It's clear the Republican party is never going to go conservative by choice. They're willing to support even the likes of a reality show clown who went bankrupt four times (and forget saying that was okay because it wasn't a personal bankruptcy, it's not okay) and in addition wants purge actual conservatives from the party.

As important as this election is, it isn't just about this election. It's about what our politics are going to be for the long term.
