You may find this hard to swallow, but it is inevitable for US to become a socialist country. The only question is how socialist and in what ways. My argument has nothing to do with the social or political merits of socialism vs capitalism. It has everything to do with demographic and technological trends. Automation and globalization will take jobs away at a faster rate than new jobs can be created. And the jobs that will be created will require very different skills than existing workers can master in a timely manner, if at all. So socialism will become a matter of survival.
