>>Luis Rukeyser's newsletter in 1998. Does anyone have any personal experiences with his advice?<< Yes, unfortunately, I subscribed for two years. Glad it finally expired. It was like the worst kind of junk mail, non-stop offers to spend money now on this and that book, seminar, convention... The stock picking advice was even worse. Like all newsletters, they have convenient ways of remembering their good results while obscurring the bad results.

My advice to potential subscribers is just say no.

As it relates to Luis Rukeysers newsletter I have subscribed for two years and i would have to say i will not renew. Its too "glib" and filled with what seems to me to be ,late information. Also it seems that the managers that he highlites tout the stocks that they have which are having a hard time or that they are about to unload and want to have you buy into so they can get the volume and price up a bit.
I do think thats kind of standard in the industry.
Besides that you get constant mailings about buying some trivial junk with his name on it. I kind of like his show but thats it.
Smart Money ( the magazine from the wall street journal) has given me the best ideas. Last year I profited by picking up ADAC, CA, and SSAX from them plus there were several others i passed up that have done well too.
Do your own research no matter where you get the idea. It doesn't have to be TA, but get a feel for the comapny and what is going on in their industry and how they fit into the overall scheme of things.
You will be surprised at how much information is out there.
These people on SI will give you a tremendous amount of information and i am always amazed at the huge number of sources they collectively have.
