Bernie brought in lots of new motivated voters into the Democratic fold for this election. Bless him. He's done the party a great service and a great good. He also made sure that many of his principals, goals and ideals were reflected in the party platform.

Near all of Bernie's supporters will vote for Clinton. Near all of these new voters will remain loyal Democrats. For this election. For life.

The chances that a self-described "democratic socialist" could have won in the general? Not nearly as good as the centrist candidate like Clinton. And you will notice that Clinton chose a conservative running mate.

On the other hand, the GOP has looked to the far right for their vice presidential candidate this election, and also when McCain ran. I don't think the outcome will be any less humiliating.

Romney truly was unwise in electing not to run this time. He well could have won.
