There is a well established way around that. You let one party to support the other and take their votes with them. In case of Presidential elections, this means you will have the president from one side, the VP from the other, and they mix their cabinet. In case of congress, it means you caucus with the one that you are more closely aligned. This is how it works in many places and there is no reason why it can't happen here.
