Very true. I have no delusions of that. But the point is not that he acts as we want him to. The point is that those whom he would have oppressed will have better chances. And in time, typically in a generation or two, a new norm is established. A few years ago there was news of a riot in Bangladesh because a newlywed couple kissed in public. We find that ridiculous, but to those who got in the fight it was a serious offense. Do you think the police had a duty to protect the couple and arrest the offenders? ST The question should have been asked, "in what concrete way seeing the couple kiss harm you?" If the answer was your feelings were hurt at the loss of traditional values, then suck it up and let it go.
