Very true. I have no delusions of that. But the point is not that *he* acts as we want him to. The point is that those whom he would have oppressed will have better chances. And in time, typically in a generation or two, a new norm is established. A few years ago there was news of a riot in Bangladesh because a newlywed couple kissed in public. We find that ridiculous, but to those who got in the fight it was a serious offense. Do you think the police had a duty to protect the couple and arrest the offenders?

The question should have been asked, "in what *concrete* way seeing the couple kiss harm you?" If the answer was your feelings were hurt at the loss of traditional values, then suck it up and let it go.
