It depends on what you mean by "socialism". It will certainly not be the soviet union variety. But it will be very far from free market place. It may take the form of some of Trump's proposals towards protectionism. Or it may take the form of "guaranteed income." It will more likely take the form of paying people while they re-educate themselves and learn new skills. Or it can be all of the above and some more. Regardless, if a large portion of the people have no means of survival, you can be sure they will elect a government that will somehow feed them.
