85---Was Nice--------------------------- CPQ up due to the 699 computer and also CPU stated their earnings today were good due to the under $1,000 machine (something dell lacks). Dell doesn't know what the under $1,000 machine is and that's why they were hurting this X-mas. My company cancelled their DELL orders to go to COMPUSA for the cheaper models (something dell doesn't have) Say goodbye to dell due to their huge prices.

Jim: You certainly add a lot of flavor to this thread. Many of the other threads where I own stock do not have the back and forth dialogue like Dell does. They are very few posts and hence not too many thoughts to read and consider. These stocks include Cisco (CSCO), AirTouch Communication (ATI), Network Associates (NETA),etc. It is people like you that stimulate conversation--good and bad. The market took a dip today toward the end including Cisco and Dell. What are your thoughts regarding: 1. Was today only profit taking for Cisco and Dell or is there a message here? 2. Do you expect the big buyers to jump in and run Cisco and Dell up right after New Years? 3. Air Touch and Network Associates went up today even though they have been going up for several days. Do you think this will continue? And why? I am quite interested in your thoughts regarding any knowledge you have and wish to share. Anybody else's thoughts are welcome too. Thanks. Don

JIm, the issue is cpq pc's sales will increase 40-60%. Even if pc units were flat...cpq grows 50% in units. you just don't get it..do you??? Plus, pc sales are still projected to grow 11-13mm units. I wouldn't call that slow. Since I have been following this industry since before cpq and dell was public and you were in jr high then, I'm at a lost at where did you pay your dues to learn anything on the industry. You never had a job or career in MIS, you didn't work in the industry.... When did you ever have any inside info or learning experience on the industry. I bet if we go back to 1996 4q we find you saying the same things you are saying now..the same things...and look what 1997 did. histroy has proven that when the growth gets tight it actually helps dell and cpq..just researhc it. When growth slows then the cpq and dells kill the competiton. when sales are increasing drastically the weaker companies can live but in the tough times they die out and that leaves more of the pie for the dell and cpq's and they just grow more. Being on Sr. management since 1983 the above corollary has always held true. It surprised us the first couple of times that it happened, but it's happened enough now that cpq and dell are planning on even a larger share and shipping even more than before since the weaker players are already dying out. The Japanese and Koreans are weak in pc mfg'ing since they don't know how to use technology on the business side. It's why most Japanses companies earn 5k profit per employee and dell earns 20 times that. No one is saying you can't express opninions. but, just bec. you read a few books on the Wight brothers doesn't allow your Astrophysics theories to be correct.
