RE:All I know is it's a competing technology coming out of Bell Labs and could be widely used in 2003.

Widely used? <G> They want to get a working system by 2003.
The goal is to deliver a working Scalpel system by 2003 for high-throughput 0.13-micron

Come on.

Scalpel is NOT competing technology, it is for the generation beyond optical lithography. Excimer Laser based optical lithography will be used down to around .1um using ArF 193nm lasers well beyond 2003 (eventually for non-critical layers)! Also, it is Lucent's GOAL of having production systems working by 2003.

This next next generation technology has been discussed at length on this thread before. It is still a race that includes e-beam, x-ray, and EUV and is still very much up in the air.

There will be NO near-term effect on Cymer's business! Remember, Excimer base DUV is the next generation (beyond Mercury Arc Lamp) technology that is just now being put into production.

Gary.
