Well meathead feast on this

I've put together two sub $1K systems. One based upon the Cyrix Media GX180, and the other on the AMD K6-233MHZ.

The former system runs better than my Pentium133 and the later system compares favorably with anything you can buy from Intel in the low end PII range. So that is what you can get sub $1K.

==================
Wait a month or two and you will find $599 MediaGX200's and $899 Pentium 233MMX's. The argument that you cannot get power under $1K is pretty dead.

Meathead,
Good post. One point, John Hull from Intel pointed out in a previous post that Intel believes (but doesn't have good visability) that about 50% of PC's are destined for home use.

Still, this media focus on sub 1K PC sales is a fixation that won't go away, even though it ultimatly will expand Intel's customer base well beyond the small portion of the worlds population that they serve today. A bad thing?

John

Meathead - Re: "40% of 24% is 9.5%... thus we could extrapolate that 1 out of every 10 PC's sold in Q4 of this year was classified as a sub-zero."

Good analysis.

Oops! No one checked my math but I did...

Q4 96 Total units = 20.7M Home units = 6.5M
This means 24% of all PC sales were to the home user who
typically shops retail at the CompUSA's and BestBuy's
of the world. 40% of 24% is 9.5%...

Correction. 6.5/20.7 = 31% of all PC sales may have been to home
users. 40% of 31% is 12.5%

Add 2.5% for slop and make it 15%

Now, I'm worried<ggg>.
