It was a notable failure at the time.
If it made an overall profit after accounting for the production, advertising, marketing, and miscellaneous expenses, then it was a success.

I personally don't know. The reviews of the game say that the rules are confusing and that it's like a more complicated version of Monopoly, which doesn't surprise me. As a gamer, I've seen a lot of these capitalism-style games come and go. Some do better than others, of course.
