Yes, sensors do fail. If you don't think there is a climate conspiracy, you have been not reading much at all. Apart from actual conspiratorial actions there are also bias actions in which it's difficult to get somebody to believe something that conflicts with their salary.

We do not keep seeing receding ice caps. There are only two and the southern one is not receding. It's gaining ice. Venice is not being swamped. Neither are the Pacific Islands, or anywhere else where the land is not sinking. The Arctic ice cap is near enough the same as it has been for 100 years with the summer and winter peaks and variations over years.
