David,

I had made my own *private* earnings projections until I remembered that NCD has been promoting HMX terminals at 50% off for the last six months or more. Just how many of the 200K terminals were (profitless?) HMX's is unknown so all my guesses are no good. However, hased on total IBM revenues from the last three quarters (approx. $25M, which may include R&D reimbursements) and the historical gross margin on NCD hardware (in the twenties), I'm inclined to believe that approx. half of the terminals shipped by NCD were in the (just ended) fourth quarter. Bob did say (five months ago) that the ramp up would be pushed out to Q4 and maybe it turned out to be true. Rather than earnings, how about if I take a stab at revenue: $50M

As far as a buyout goes, I can't say I really think about those things. (I'm actually more interested in how NCD comes up with the names [numbers] 400 and 450 for their Exploras.) If NC's are perceived to be "hot" and NCD the "hot" company, then I'm sure we could get a premium price.

Jim

re: earnings projection

I don't do these.

re: around in 99

My current guess? Yes. No guarantees, of course, but the company's position to survive and prosper has not been this good for at least 5 years. That doesn't mean it will be trivial, and it doesn't mean it will be without effort and risk, but all the pieces are put in place now. I believe a winning strategy has been put in place, and the remaining effort is execution, with occasional fine tuning of strategy.
