Bill Gates is a smart guy... but just because he's filthy rich doesn't mean he's super smart. The guy was in the right place at the right time. He bought DOS for 50k, right after the guy who developed it turned down IBM because he didn't like their attitude. I think a lot of people still don't know this. Steve Jobs Just think how the world would be different if Steve Jobs had lived in Idaho when he was a kid instead of the Bay Area. Being in the right place at the right time is underestimated.
