Well it ended. That we got an incompetent fool as president 20 years later really can't be blamed on Reagan. What has happened recently is solely explained by the weakness of Obama. That's why Trump is exactly right when he says he can deal with Putin. Putin will respect him. Just like Gorby respected Reagan after his handling of the PATCO strikers. Keep in mind that Reagan believed MAD was utterly insane. As far back as the 60s he had articulated his view that USSR could be defeated economically by challenging them in an arms race. It would never have happened, though, had it not come together after he was elected. SDI was critical in that it was a wild card. Gorby actually had to ask his scientific community was it possible, and their view was that it posed a danger that could render their offensive systems useless. This, of course, is the reason Gorby pushed so hard against SDI. Many people don't understand how SDI came about but Reagan himself with the driving force. Many of his scientific advisers were doubtful. Reagan called E. Teller to the White House to get his opinion. Reagan really had to fight a lot of his advisers to get them on board. I think Gorby had the good sense to recognize things had to change. You can't imagine some of the old leadership having come to terms without a fight. In that sense he was important. Thatcher also played a substantial role as well, which has been well documented. The reason I like the Lettow nook I linked is that he really provides extensive detail and references, often to freshly (as of 10 years ago when I read it) unclassified material. It is a great read IMO. I do think the US has military exposure over the coming 50 years or so due specifically to our economic weakness and the rise of other military powers. Would be cool to be around then to see what happens.

The clip shows angry rioters chanting “black power!” before asking “is they white?” as cars slowly drive past. “Yeah they white!” states someone else, prompting the mob to run towards the vehicle. “Yeah they white, get their ass!” screams another. “Hey they beatin’ up every white person!” exclaims another rioter. “He white – beat his head – bitch!” he adds. The footage appears to show the mob attacking cars and trying to drag out the drivers.
