Of course, but those were fears that prompted protective actions. When people attempt to financially protect themselves against rumours of systemic bank failures they take their money out of the bank. And we know that current banks have very limited reserves as it is.. if in fact, they are in compliance with reserve requirements which few generally are.

However, I'm not suggesting the end of society by any means. What I'm suggesting is that none of know the possible extent of the problem and in general tend to underestimate the ripple effect of economic problems.

I believe the US is probably better off than the rest of the world vis a vis Y2K. I worry about Europe and primarily Asia.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I sure would rather be prepared mentally for it than be overly optomistic.
