There are people running companies who are real good at IR, and suck at building the business ... so if i had to choose one or the other, and was holding shares, it would be better to favour the business

Most of the questions i have regarding different outfits is either already posted in their releases or sedars or website somewhere, or else it's unavailable, because it's insider information and they can't do selective disclosure ... there can be proprietary information too, stuff they never want to tell anybody, trade secrets ... then there's answers they don't have, often regarding the timetables of other bodies [eg - 'What's up with the US listing?' - if they knew, they'd tell us in a release] ... occasionally i still do call, more for clarification of wording than anything else, the last couple times, anyway ... it's so embarrassing to ask something and be told, Oh that's in the release from such and such a date, makes me resolve to read absolutely everything first

There have been people running companies that i would run into outside office hours, or outside their office anyway, one especially, our paths crossed socially a lot for a while ... we would never talk in any depth about his business, or mine, it was always about third parties and their situations ... real quality neighbourhood gossip, stuff like why did another dude resign, or sell shares or whatever, and who was good at their job and who wasn't, and when would a pp be coming along and at what price ... but never about his own outfit, he was simply talking as a very informed investor

IR people are hired mostly to give you a pep talk, build rah-rah enthusiasm without revealing any relevant facts that aren't already public, this is not productive to the punter's interests imho ... there have been at least three ladies over the years though, who got called just to hear the sounds of their voices ... who was it at Winspear years ago, Sophie? ... ah, Tomato would say, she gives great phone
