Somewhere in this NPR program that I linked in my post, there is a media person who claims that studies show that political advertising does not work

and that a big reason for media buys is to enrich the consultants who place the ads. He says the thing that works best is putting together a good ground game, something that Trump also isn't said to be spending money on.
