Justa,

OK, I'll quit responding to offtopic posts (after this one) :-)

Does anyone know how can I short the US government?

Wasn't that the Guru's advice last year? i.e. US markets had had 2 consecutive 20%+ annual gains and just couldn't possibly do it for a third year. So buy the Far East which was the fastest grower at that time.

Now that was great advice; I can't wait to hear what they recommend for the coming year. ;^D

On topic: some interesting stories at:

techweb.cmp.com

regards,
Ian.

Justa, there is a way to short the "US government", you sell short long term (or any term) treasuries and buy long (in a balanced way, dollar for about 130 yean). If you are right (and for the next year I think that will lose you a bundle) the interest of about 6% you'll pay will be partially covered with the miniscule interest Yen denominated bonds will pay, but could be compensated if indeed UD should be shroted (which assumes the dollar will drop under 120 $/yen)

Justa, do not follow this advice, since I think the yen will actually depreciate a little more vs the dollar. You might be better doing the inverse (also known as "Carry Trade"?) and then you get paid 6% on top of the currency decline in the yen.
