My brother-in-law had flashing lights show up on his desktop screen, with a warning that his computer has been infected with a virus, directing him to call "tech support". Not surprising, it was a fellow with an Indian accent "saving" his computer. The victim stayed on the phone for quite some time, giving him access to his computer and even giving him a CC number to pay for cleaning up the viruses, which the perpetrator was probably busy loading. At that point my brother-in-law, an inexperience senior citizen, came to his senses and told him he wasn't going to do business with him and hung up the phone. Then spent 3 hours with his former tech support person, who removed 500 viruses and loaded him up with Windows Defender. I suggested that he cancel his CC.

When this sort of message pops up while surfing the internet, what should one do? I have had this happen to me once and had to take the computer in to tech services. Fleas were too hard for me to get rid on myself. Thanks to all for any suggestions.
