Freddy, what on earth is this horrible post, and what are you doing sitting around on New Year's Eve reading and copying stuff like this, anyway? I don't really feel like talking about anything very serious, but if you must, Hitler came from a religious background, and the Nazis had the support of some churches. As you will recall, since I am sure you are tired of me talking about it, the Catholic Church in France admitted complicity with the Nazis this year, and the Vatican apologized for it. Why was there so much appeasement, if men of the cloth were acting in Christian ways, which I hope would include not contributing at all to mass torture and slaughter, and indeed even speaking out publicly about it!!!! The Nazis were jerks, psychopaths, fascists. They certainly have nothing to do with me, or with atheists or pagans (even the neo-pagans whom you seem to despise). I think ultimately, using better than doubtful logic, all you could really conclude is that there have been very bad leaders in cultures that were religious, and non-religious. I believe that when you add in all the tribal warfare which results in people being killed fighting about which religion is better, and factor in the Inquisition, and the American Indians being almost wiped out in "God's name" as the white settlers took over their land, religion has been very divisive in the history of man, and has caused more deaths from violence than pagan or atheist cultures. But even if you want to debate whether that is true or not, certainly it would be difficult for you to prove that religion has been beneficial in any other way than giving comfort to the individual faithful during their often short and miserable lives. Why aren't you stirring up a nice roux or something, instead of trying to rile me? I am very impressed when men are secure enough to be competent in the kitchen.
