Your fears may be legitimate. The individual cannot however be compared to the mass. And that is where false sub judis sets in. There can be apology on one side and explanation on the other. The question is what do we infer from the statistics? The US is steadily becoming a more dangerous place it appears, yet crime statistics are actually down. The reasons for drifters, unemployed and border jumpers to end up afoul of the law are clear and not alarming. The disruption of society is palpable howvever and needs attending. Schools in inner cities have always been rough places. Hell's kitchen and immigrant ghettos are part of the American scene and incubators of crime in a grand tradition. The world tends towards organization and boring normalcy in time. Co-operation is easier than war. Yet war will always flourish. I wouldn't vote for catastophic change within society at any time unless it provides a measure of protection for its citizens for the changes that come, a solution to pressing problems and a clear path forward to better times. Few social engineering escapades of recent governments pass this test. Continual pressure on Fortress America will wear its institutions down as they lose the capacity to be handmaiden for the dependent and unruly. The real vector lies in history. All civilizations advance and decline over time. They organize around military expansion and commerce and then shrink form debilitation of corruption apathy and lethargy. Waste, inefficiency and "delegation" of the invigorating "work" corrode the fabric. Eventually the structure crumbles. All are the same. Importation of workers, slaves, fatocracy, excess, more tenuous patrol of borders, decline, and overrun. Spengler said it. All western civilizations are in decline. The only question is how long have they got? Look at archaeology. Can technology keep decline and rebuilding by newcomers with attendant lower standards from happening? It is not evident in history. Advanced gives way to primitive, fellahs camping in the ruins. Perhaps trailer parks and homeless presage the decline. Out descendent will not inherit America. Already the hordes we cannot accomodate are landing and camping, waiting for the golden goose to visit their door. He will be a long time coming. EC<:-} -----------------------------
