Bernie Says The National Parks Are About To Be Swallowed By Climate Change

Posted on August 25, 2016 by tonyheller

Bernie says that the 1:10,000 increase in CO2 over the past century is about to destroy places which have been around for tens of millions of years.

He was referring to this story in the Guardian.

Rising temperatures could mean no more glaciers in Glacier national park

Climate change will mean the end of national parks as we know them | Environment | The Guardian

Two years ago, experts said Glacier National Park would be ice-free by 2050.

Glaciers have been disappearing for 20,000 years, and sea level has been rising for 20,000 years. Bernie should remember that, because he was unemployed and living in a warehouse in Vermont with no electricity or plumbing for most of that period.

Hubert Lamb:

“It was after 2000-1500 BC that most of the present glaciers in the Rocky Mountains south of 57 o N were formed and that major re-advance of those in the Alaskan Rockies first took place.

And at their subsequent advanced positions – probably around 500 BC as well as between 1650 and 1850 AD – the glaciers in the Alps regained an extent, estimated in the Glockner region, at about 5 times their Bronze Age Minimum, when all the smaller ones had disappeared.”

When the Egyptians were building the pyramids and Israelites were crossing the Sinai, the glaciers of Glacier National Park were forming and growing. Other glaciers to the north were growing. too The Mendenhall glacier in Alaska is receding now, uncovering trees that were smashed and covered by the glacier back in the days of Kings David, Solomon and Hezekiah.

We can imagine that we're making glaciers melt but we're not, anymore than we made them grow in the first place.
