You missed the WHOLE point of bentway's post. Johnson wasn't condoning racism. He was explaining how it WORKED in the South. He essentially ENDED any chance the Democrats would ever carry another Southern State. LBJ became a Statesman when he said that. He became a Great American when he said that. When he said that he stopped being a politician and he just became an American.
