Opinions Vary: Should I Disconnect My Backup Drive When I’m Not Backing Up? {2]

I'm with Leo Notenboom NOT Fred St. John on this issue. My earlier post on the subject is here: Message 30653897

One of my external backup drives (sometimes 2 of the 3 I use) is/are always connected and I make use of automated backups (scheduled, incremental, differential) depending on what I'm doing with my primary desktop during a given period. I've learned the penalty of not doing so the hard way more than once. The benefit far outweigs any risk (and the risk is minimal as Leo has explained several times).

Automated backups as opposed to only creating manual backups are what sophisticated backup software is all about.
