Hal, inferring from Maverick's new posts (NEWS ONLY) , and the fact that Ascend is already a supplier to, I would say NTT is probably where a major xDSL contract/deployment is coming from. I recall seeing that NTT is something like the 7th largest corporation in the world. This is better than a RBOC.

Although, ASND is currently supplying switching equip.to BellSouth, Bell Atlantic/NYNEX, & AT&T WorldNet. These are certainly logical targets for xDSL since they already have a strong presence. According to an earlier Maverick Post (#544 NEWS ONLY) PacBell purchased several thousand DSLTNT ports and DSLPipes. So, ASND is playing with some major telcos today.

hal,

As far as Westell is concerned, they are currently sitting on a market cap of only $192.7 million. I feel that they would be a great acquisition for someone trying to gain a presence in the ADSL arena. It is worth noting that Westell has already worked out licensing agreements with TI through their purchase of Amati Communications. Obviously, since Westell is pretty much a held company since one family owns the majority of the stock it might cost a healthy premium.

Great research Gary Korn!

Thanks,

Steve
