Wages are stagnant - especially amongst the so called middle class.......so the apparent use of discretionary income has come from lower gas prices and home refi's. Plus, i know several folks who make 6 figures in their primary profession that have also turned to outside consultation work, advisement, and in some cases a separate part time gig altogether......technology is a huge part in making this possible with respect to efficiency and productivity.

Yes, alternative methods of compensation and using bonus pts, incentives for all sorts of things are definite drivers.

Just noticed at the auto dealer last week that 6, 7, and even 8 year term loans are in play at very low interest rates. Ironically it is troubling to read an article about shorter term auto loan defaults occuring more frequently than in the past. Longer terms giving the lower monthly payments for folks to spend elsewhere.

Low velocity currency is a sure sign of a weak and fragile economy... a normal and healthy economy would have a velocity of around 12, say 10 to 14 or so... this is the velocity of the dollar... for a velocity to be so low tells us that no one is spending money... the economy is slow, not a good sign... I don't know how the FED could even think about raising rates with a velocity so low, it's beyond imagination...
