[Telcos vs. equipment mfgs.]

<<The difference in views between service providers and computer manufacturers may be best summed up by Bill Rodey, vice president of strategic planning and technology management at Westell. "Computer manufacturers want to make ADSL a mass market by Christmas 1998," Rodey says. "Telcos want this to evolve in the way a telco network evolves." In other words, next year's wish list may just be that--a wish list.>>

Steve --

Probably as honest a summation as you'll get. With all the talk about splitterless and DLS Lite and truckless-solutions, it should be an interesting year. Frankly, I think I'd put my money in treasuries before I'd face another long stretch of roller-coaster rides. Small money, sure, but not the big stuff.

<<Looks like the fog will burn off an we'll have a bright new year day here in Central Cal. Did ya catch the culprit last night? >>>

The culprit turned out to be my French boyfriend. I was the Italian daughter of the victim who was supposedly going to send me to a Brazilian convent to prevent me from marrying him. Hmmmm. . . now why did I get the most votes for being the murderer????

It turned out to be a lot of fun because no one suspected the French boyfriend. And, of course, playing my part to the hilt, I was far too blinded by my infatuation ("lust at first sight") to see that he was after my papa's money. So much for my feminine charms.

Then again, maybe I should have stuck with black leather instead of the black velvet I ended up wearing. :)

Hope you're laughing.

But, what fun to play a different role for a change. It probably wouldn't hurt to do it more often.

As for the new year. . . I just discovered a leak under my kitchen sink and the plumber informs me it'll cost $118 an hour, one hour minimum, if he comes today. Think I'll turn the water off and wait.

Isn't there a football game on today???? Maybe I should check. . .

Cheers!

Pat

[More formatting: things that make excessively wide SI windows:]

Another thing to watch out for: When SI can't break a line, it makes the box wide enough to accommodate the line. That causes all text to be that wide, frequently requiring horizontal scrolling.

When copied text includes long lines of hyphens that make the SI box very wide, edit your post and delete some of the copied hyphens (or at least insert a space so the lines can wrap normally and SI doesn't have to widen the box.)

Thanks again.
