Good morning, Jack!

I don't really care if you disagree with me a lot. I grew up in an atmosphere where everyone was always discussing ideas and philosophies, and find it intellectually stimulating. Life would be awfully boring if everyone agreed.

But I do disagree with you about depression after plastic surgery. Let's just take Del as as example (I'm pretty sure he won't mind). Now Del is unhappy with the bags under/around his eyes, and wants to look better. That is very concrete and rational, and something a plastic surgeon can probably fix. However, he might also have some emotional issues that he has attached to this problem. He might feel like getting rid of the bags will help him feel much younger, or attract a wonderful new woman in his life. But while he is recovering from the surgery he is in some pain, and his body has been carved up as well, which is a significant shock to his whole psyche that he hadn't counted on. And then the other parts of him STILL feel old and creaky, and when he is up and happening again, there is still no exciting new romance, and all that has happened is that the bags are gone. He might feel disappointed!!!

I'm using Del as an example, because he is here, but really this disillusionment with what plastic surgery is a common experience. I think it should be mandatory to have a few psychotherapy sessions before contemplating such a procedure, to prepare the patient psychologically and make sure there isn't an emotional expectation the surgery will never fulfill, but then I am from touchy feely California and I realize that will never actually happen!!!!!!
