PX,
I do not believe speech recognition software will become a "killer app". Quite simply, audio input does not complement the office environment. Audio input requires privacy and most computers are located in semi-private or open areas.
A limited audio interface (on, off, merge, open, etc.)will certainly become a standard feature of future operating systems but will not require a massive amount of storage capacity. Processor speed, yes.

Speech recognition software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, are impressive and useful but not the universal killer I am looking for.

By the way, how close are we getting to the physical limitations of the magnetic effect? How many bits per sq. inch is even theoretically possible?

Pierre,
I enjoyed your piece on the DD cycles. Very informative. But I just read your "Killer App" piece and I disagree with every point after "Tommorow." But rather then argue then where I disagree i'm more interested in hearing why you think Person to Person Digital Video and Real Time Interactive Multimedia over the internet don't get your Next Big Thing status. Currently the internet is held back by bandwidth restriction at the "last mile". But that will be resolved and it will be clear the eMail and HTML are only the first drop in what will be a flood of killer appps to come from a net centric world.
