...economic needs are not met by placing pity over competence... I entirely agree, yet that is functionally what affirmative action and hiring quotas based on demographics serve to accomplish. Moreover, it could also be argued that economic needs are not being met in the United States because pity has been placed over competence for many decades now. affirmative action / hiring quotas / lower standards = pity / charity / tolerance of lower quality
