I too watched Moneyline and Dr. Ed Yardeni on with Roger McNamee from Integral Capital Partners. As expected, McNamee disagrees with Dr. Yardeni. What kind of debate would we have if both sides agreed!

I was trying to take notes rather quickly so I'll just pass along here my notes!

Dr. Yardeni compared it to the Times Square ball....except that it's more like a tossed hand grenade.......says 1 in 5 companies are ready for the change over in 2000 and that this problem could cost the economy one trillion dollars! The SEC is now requiring companies to report what they are doing to prepare for Y2K. It's like a ticking time bomb. The problem is beyond computers....companies must act quickly.

Dr. Yardeni said the Y2K problem could cause a recession - that it's a global problem - and that we'll fix a lot of it but not all of it. The FAA has 38% done but still has a lot of work to do. The Social Security Administration is working on the 30 million lines of code that needs to be changed....then realized that there's another 30 million lines they haven't even started on yet....there could be dangers in many areas that depend on systems being computer compatible....may not want to fly anywhere right after 2000 until sure worldwide problem has been solved.....with computers talking to computers thing!

Dr. Yardeni is no dummy.....my broker provides me with reports from him all the time.....I know of no one on Wall Street more respected than Dr. Yardeni.....and he would not be putting his career on the line without some very IN DEPTH research to verify his beliefs. He kept going back to the word RECESSION. Companies will have to spend the money to solve the problem.....which will take money out of their normal spending categories to spend on this.....this problem could cripple the economy for a while.....and Dr. Yardeni is not the type to try and scare people.....

I do not know who this Roger McNamee is but he was not very convincing to me! He acknowledged that we do have a problem but he thinks it will not be a big deal to fix. Whoa......

It's going to be interesting to watch......I'm putting my money on Dr. Yardeni!!!

Regards,

Nanny
