J, Thanks for the detailed response. I'm a little short on time right now - will post details from the report shortly. Richard.

Joe, here is the summary you asked for:

Gilder Technology Report discusses future directions of technology. One "ascendant technology" described in the report is the Single Chip System. Gilder states that the ultimate systems on a chip must contain analog devices and that NSM a world analog leader. Gilder likes the acquisitions of Comlinear for analog to digital converters and Cyrix for leading edge processors. He also mentions a one chip digital camera. Report states that Halla is reconstructing the entire company around the concept of the system on a chip.

Gilder predicts that in the future wireless handsets will be most common form of the personal computer. He thinks they will be full of one-chip systems that can only come from companies with full analog as well as digital capabilities. Few firms will qualify; high among the leaders will be National Semiconductor. He also thinks TXN and ADI will be players. Gilder also mentions a joint venture between LSI and Micron to embed DRAM cells in one-chip systems.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I think everyone would appreciate it if this thread would return to constructive and informative posts.

Best wishes for profits in 1998!
