I've considered the possibility of video, and here are my conclusions. A good friend of mine is a big believer in video and we've butted heads over this one.

Note that the video applications that you've mentioned, videoconferencing and video email, are bandwidth intensive applications. Video requires processing power for co/dec, but note that a cottage industry has arisen for co/dec processing and acceleration. I believe that, like the 2D graphics chip business, the CPU will not handle--nor is it efficient for the CPU to handle--co/dec tasks.

Video will, in my opinion of course, be a minor killer app that helps drive bandwidth demand, but I don't think it has the incredible productivity potential that I associate with AUI. This could be a lack of vision on my part--lets discuss.
