Diamond discovery in Sweden; agreement signed with prospectors

Poplar Resources Ltd PPX
Shares issued 16,155,679 Dec 31 close $0.20
Fri 2 Jan 98 News Release
Mr Gennan McDowall reports
The company has reached an agreement with two prospectors who have
discovered the first diamonds in Sweden. The diamonds were found in a till
boulder discovered in the northern part of the country. The identification
of the diamonds was made with the assistance of the Swedish Geological
Survey and the Camborne School of Mines (UK). A petrological analysis of
the host rock indicates that it appears to be a lamproite.
The company, in conjunction with its joint venture partner, Alcaston Mining
of Australia, has an application pending for 270,000 sq km of northern
Sweden. The company also has mining licences in adjoining Finland where
diamondiferous kimberlite pipes have been found by Ashton Mining of
Australia.
As part of the agreement between the company's subsidiary, North Star
Diamonds, and the Swedish prospectors, the prospectors have provided Poplar
with the exact location of the find and have provided the company with the
diamonds and the host material for analysis. The company's geologists have
now inspected the site. In return for their information, the prospectors
have been paid a small fee and will earn a 1% royalty in any future diamond
mine resulting from their discovery. They will also be retained as
prospectors to further Poplar's exploration activities in the region. It is
expected that this discovery will accelerate the company's exploration in
the area.
