Hello Joe, I'm not sure how to read your comment.

AUI is hardly wishful thinking.

Current technology is only one generation away from mass-market speech recognition power. Nobody is going to STOP working on AUI technologies, which have been in development for over 15 years.

Bill Gates made statements at his annual press retreat indicating a high commitment to incorporating AUI into Windows. Microsoft has invested in Lernaut & Hauspie (NASD: LHSPF) which develops and sells speech recognition tools (they recently acquired Kurzweil). Nobody can deny that AUI will drive demand for more CPU horsepower.

The only thing I envision that may offset some of the CPU demand growth generated by AUI is the rise of a cottage industry around "AUI accelerators"--outboard DSPs that handle much of the processing required for AUI, similar to graphics accelerators and disk interfaces today.
