A total rec count is good, but the next metric would be recs per post.

People can already get this if they do the math and divide rec# by post#.

I've always admired programmers and was never good at it.

Thanks Dmitry for your work. :)

Dima-

if you don't have recurring income from subscribers...

the criteria question for a commercial media's financial success is -
how many eyeballs can you provide to advertisers?

it is to SI's business advantage to determine who creates the most views
and reward them so they will continue to contribute the free wisdom that
people want to read.

you are on the right commercial track amigo..

-ep
ps- it may not be important in the overall scheme of evolution.

Along the lines of creating more page views AND solving a problem that nags me now and then:

How about a switch we can set to turn off PMs from certain posters?

Once set, don't show the world they are ignored for PMs but just say "So and so is not accepting PMs. Try contacting So and so via email or reply to one of So and so's posts."

There are a few who like to "chime in" when I post something using PMs and I prefer they post it for all to see (and generate more page views for you) or don't bother me with it in the first place.

I can ignore people, but that puts a "spot" on their record and I can miss what they have to say publicly.

Thanks!

I like the views per post idea, but think it would be difficult to design a formula including too many statistical categories since people assign different significance to the various stats.

Generally, I prefer raw data, so people can focus on what they consider important.
